Summer Blues
Here's my latest painting. It's called summer blues. I started it with most of the elements in mind. It had originally in my head been much different. It was much more pleasant, more light blues as in early morning or afternoon at a cafe type place. Then as I lay paint down on the cavnass it became something more guresome. hence the blues.
Technical aspects are interesting. What some people would call a good photo, I would call boring. In this case I would not change a damn thing. People pointed out that the ocean waves crashing was a bit distracting. For those people I ask, what is it distracting you from? The pretty lady? Does it make you nervous? The ocean is coming in and you are about to be washed out to sea. I would hope it would be distracting! To be fair, they were posting from the plus minus group where they are forced to give one positive and one negative critique, which is a lot of fun, so I don't take it personally, yet it is interesting to see.
Another minus critique is the windows and how it seems there is nothing... somewhere i don't really see it. I assume she is confused by the surreality.
Like many optical illusions and other types of surreal paintings, reality and what makes sense will just barely miss like a strange dream where you wake up and say "That seems perfectly natural... but wait I was riding a 2 headed panda!!! "
Up Parts
Here I wanted to put the parts in an elevator. Not just juxtopositon from down parts. I wanted that sense of mission. That you're going up, and your taking all of the parts with you. You are ready to kick butt! It took me roughly 45 min to get this together. Though I worked on the basic oultay for about 20 min the night before. The details came at the very end when the mood set in and I knew exactly what I wanted this to be.
Most of this came from my imagination. There wasn't too much prethought, and no reference material. Just raw thinking and imagination mostly.
